Parakkat Sree Bhagavathy Temple Festival – Kavassery Parakkat Pooram 2024 Date

Parakkat Sree Bhagavathy temple is located at Kavasseri, around 5 km from Alathur, in Palakkad district, Kerala. It is known as Parakkat Pooram Mahotsavam. The main festival in the temple is observed on Pooram nakshatra in Meenam month. Kavassery Pooram 2024 date is March 23.

The temple is famous for caparisoned elephant procession, kuthira, flower and leaf decoration, step panthal with illumination, panchavadyam and double thayambaka.

Other festivals observed in the temple are Kathirvela of Thulam month, Mandalam kalamezhuthu pattu in Vrishchika month, Ponnin poovu in the month of Makaram, Koothu in the month of Kumbham. Aaluvela in the month of Edavam, Thalappoli in the month of Midhunam and Eswara seva in the month of Karkidakam.

The main deity worshipped in the shrine is Goddess Bhadrakali who faces north. It is believed that Parakkat Sree Bhagavathy is the sister of Mangadu Bhagavathi.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Kshetrapalan and Ganapathy.

The annual Pavakoothu ritual begins on Makayiram nakshatra in Makaram month.

The temple is located in the middle of a 40 acre grove. There several teak trees in the temple compound and they are only to be cut for the use Goddess Bhagavathi. Gayatri Puzha flows near the temple.

The Vadakke Nada Shiva temple located nearby is the Keezhedam of Kavasseri Parakkat Sree Bhagavathi temple.

The annual Sreerama Pattabhishekam in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam.
