Dubdi Saptami – Goddess Dubdi Puja And Vrat In September

Dubdi Saptami is observed on Bhadrapad Shukla Paksha Saptami Tithi or the seventh day during the waxing phase of moon in Bhadrapad month (August – September). Dubdi Saptami 2024 date is September 10. The ritual is observed by married women. It is believed that observing the vrat will help in keeping children in the family in good health.

The ritual is dedicated to Goddess Dubdi. It is believed that this form of Mother Goddess helps in overcoming all kinds of adverse situations. The ritual is widely observed in certain regions in North India. There is also a popular story associated with the ritual.

Dubdi Puja Ritual

For Dubdi puja you need to make figurines of a married woman, 6 to 8 children and 1 to 2 snakes using clean clay or mud. The figurines are arranged in the puja area along with a clay pot filled with water. Puja is offered to the figurines and clay pot – diya, dhoop, rice, milk drops, flour, roli, sugar etc are offered. Prayers are offered to the goddess and arti is performed.

Dubdi Saptami Vrat Katha

Once there lived a man who had seven sons. He decided to conduct the marriage of his eldest son. But the man disappeared on the day of marriage and everyone thought he had died.

All the other sons except for the last son disappeared in similar fashion on the day of their marriage.

Now it was time of the youngest son to get married but everyone in the family was scared.

On that day, an old woman appeared in the dream of aunty of the sons. The old woman told her to perform a particular puja so that the youngest son will be saved and this will also help in finding the other lost sons.

The aunty told everyone about her dream and people named the old woman in dream Dubdi and performed the puja as directed by her. Soon the marriage of the youngest son happened incident free and soon all the others sons to returned.
