Gudi Padwa - Ugadi Thoughts – Hindu Blog

Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra; Ugadi in Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; Sansar Padwa in Goa and Chaitra Sukhladi in North India marks the beginning of New Year in the respective Hindu lunar calendar followed in these regions. The New Year is observed on the first day of the waxing phase of moon (Chaitra Shukla Paksha Pratipada) in Chaitra month.

All our festivals are directly or indirectly associated with the agrarian economy. The New Year that is observed in various parts of the country on the first day of Chaitra month is dedicated to the hope, success and joy. This success, hope and joy is directly associated with the success of our farmers.

If our farmers fail we all fail.

It is said in the Thirukkural that farmers are the key player of the world as they support all who take up other work, not having the strength to plough.

Now we need to support our farmers to get through the severe problems they face. We don’t need to move mountains; all we need to do is help a single farmer. Make an effort to understand the problems the farmers are facing. Help them in the best way we can.

The great Hindu teachings says that all forms of life are closely interlinked, interrelated and interdependent, and that any disturbance in one will create and imbalance in the others.

We are facing umpteen issues due to our greed. Cutting down of trees, deforestation, rising global temperatures are causing havoc all around the world. New viruses are appearing frequently and killing living beings in thousands. The rise in temperature is taking the world towards irreparable damage.

Make a new beginning by planting new trees and stopping all kinds of activities that add towards global warming. Do your bit by protecting trees and buying only environmental friendly things.

If we don't change, Mother Nature knows how to take care of itself. She has started sending out warnings. She is the loving the Mother Parvati but she is also Maa Kali who can devour the entire human population in a split of a second.

We need to go back to true Hindu way of life. Mother Nature plays an important role in it. Instead of blindly praying to rivers, protect our rivers, instead of fighting in the name of cow, protect all animals and plants....At least plant a Tulsi plant and take care of it.
