Mahagauri Devi is the eighth form of Mother Goddess Shakti among the Nava Durgas. She is worshipped for achieving Siddhi, good health, peace and prosperity in life. When to Perform Goddess Mahagauri Devi Puja?
The ideal day to perform the puja:
- Eighth day of Navratri.
- Navami Tithi – the ninth day of the waning or waxing phase of moon. Ninth day after full moon (purnima) or no moon day (Amavasya) in any month other than Ashwin and Chaitra when there is Navratri.
- Another option is when there is Uttara Shada or Uthiradam Nakshatra in a lunar month.
- The puja becomes doubly auspicious when there is a combination of Uttara Shada or Uthiradam and Navami Tithi.

Simple Goddess Mahagauri Puja Vidhi
- The puja should be performed early morning after sunrise or during the pradosh period (1.5 hours before sunset).
- The murti (picture, photo or painting) of Goddess Mahagauri should be placed on the northeast corner of the house on a white color cloth.
- The puja should be performed facing northeast.
- The person performing puja should wear white color clothes.
- Take a kalash fill it with water and put some sugar and white chandan in it. Close the kalash with a coconut. Keep this near the picture or sculpture or painting of Goddess Mahagauri.
- The lamp should be lit using pure cow ghee mixed with kesar. One wick is preferred.
- Dhoop or Agarbatti should be of Mogra.
- White color flowers should be offered.
- Offer uncooked rice.
- Offer white sandalwood paste.
- Offer fragrance like ithar or other fragrant waters.
- Offer milk and pure honey.
- Prepare food with Mawa or any white product of milk. It should be later with family members and a married woman.
- The mantra ॐ गौर्यै देव्यै: नमः should be chanted 108 times. The count can be kept on any mala.
- The water and sugar in the kalash should be deposited under a peepal tree.
Special Offering and Pujas to Goddess Mahagauri
- For peace among family members offer white thread during puja. Later tie it on the main gate or door of the house.
- To solve marriage related problems offer fragrant water or perfume of Raat Rani flower during puja to Goddess. Later spray or sprinkle it in the bedroom.
- To find relief in love and romance related matters offer five flowers to Goddess. Later keep it purse, pocket or bag.
- Offer milk to Goddess and later pour it under a peepal tree. This will help in curing health issues.
- Keeping uncooked rice offered to goddess on office table will help in solving career problems.
- Offer a coin to Goddess during puja and keep it pursue to solve wealth and debt issues.
- Write the name of Goddess Mahagauri 108 times in a white paper and offer it to goddess. Later keep it in bag or book for performing well in studies and interviews. This is very good for school and college going students.
