Sudarshana Chakra or discus is the most powerful weapon in
the possession of Hindu god Vishnu. There is deep symbolic meaning attached to
Sudarshan Chakra. We might think Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra is for vanquishing enemies
and evil forces like demons. However, the chakra is set into motion to
eliminate internal enemies of human beings such as anger, lust and greed and to
help them achieve bliss on earth.
Here is a look at the various symbolism of Sudarshana
Chakra.
As per Vamana Purana Sudarshana is Kala Chakra.
It had twelve spokes representing twelve months. These
twelve spokes are presided by twelve deities.
The central nave of the discus represented six seasons.
As per Vishnu Purana, the Sudarshana Chakra symbolizes
extremely agile mind which can defeat even wind.
Some scholars are of the view that it is the luminous disk
of sun itself.
