Karkidaka Sankranti rituals are observed a day before Karkidakom
month begins in Kerala. As part of Karkidaka Sankranti rituals, the houses are
cleaned in the evening and the waste collected from the house will be discarded
after circumambulating the house three times. Then Goddess Lakshmi is invited
into the house.
Karkidaka Masam, or Karkidakam Month, is the last month in
the traditional Malayalam calendar followed in Kerala. The month is also known
as Ramayana Masam.
