Chakrapani is one among the numerous names of Hindu God
Vishnu. This form gives importance to Chakra or Discus of Vishnu. Shrines
dedicated to this form are found in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu and
Kerala.
Legend has it that Vishnu appeared as Chakrapani, in the
form of Discus or Chakra, to put down the pride of Surya, the sun god in
Hinduism.
The most famous temple dedicated to Chakrapani form is
located in Kumbakonam.
The Chakrapani form is a rare frightful form of Vishnu. This
form is worshiped to overcome enemies.
Flames of fire are shown all round the main murti.
Kings used to worship this form before going into battle.
