Varun Vrat in Bhadrapad Month

Varan Vrat is observed for the entire Bhadrapad month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India. Bhadrapad in North India in 2026 is from August 29 to September 26. The pujas and prayers on the day are dedicated to Varuna, the Vedic deity. Today, Varuna also is the god of rains and seas.

The vrat begins on the first day of Bhadrapad month and ends on the Bhadrapad Purnima. Daily prayers are offered to Varuna for welfare. Only vegetarian food is consumed for the entire month.

The devotee donates clothes and food to the poor and needy as per his financial strength.
