Ekanetra is a manifestation of Hindu God Shiva. This form of
Shiva is associated with the Tantric tradition. Ekanetra is part of eight
deities through whom Shiva performs creation, maintenance, destruction,
concealing and revealing.
Ekanetra is part of Vidyesvaras or lords of knowledge – the above
mentioned eight deities are also known as Vidyesvaras. They perform all actions
on behalf of Shiva on lower worlds.
Ekanetra means the one with single eye. This aspect Shiva is
also identified with Ekarudra.
Symbolically, Ekanetra also means the primordial single source of energy from which all things manifest and into which all things merge.
Ekanetra also teaches the importance of single-minded focus in the materialistic world. Two is distraction. One stands for success and liberation.
