Datta Jayanti Navratri – Dattatreya Jayanthi Navaratri

Datta Jayanti Navratri is associated with Hindu God Dattatreya. It begins nine days before the Dattatreya Jayanti day. In 2017, Datta Jayanti Navratri begins on November 26 and ends on December 3, 2017 – the Dattatreya Jayanti day. It is observed from the saptami or seventh day of the Shukla Paksha of Margashrish month to the full moon day in the month.

Dattatreya is the Trimurti Avatar – the united and single incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

During the nine days special rituals are held in temples dedicated to Dattatreya. Dattatreya remained an Avadutha throughout his life – a sage who remains in pure nature. He was a supreme yogi. Dattatreya narrated the secrets of Vedanta to Lord Subrahmanya and this teaching later came to be known as Avadhuta Gita.

If he does not get them after being devoted to me, then he gives up the devotion saying that the talk of God etc. is all lies.

Like an ignorant peasant he sets up different deities and after failing with one he goes to the next.

He joins that Guru tradition where there is a great pomp and show, receives Guru-mantra from him and considers others as ordinary. He behaves cruelly with living creatures but showers special love on a stone idol. But his love is not steady in one single place. He makes my idol and installs it in one corner of the house and himself he goes on pilgri…
