Kartik Brata in Puri Jagannath Temple in Orissa

Kartik Brata is observed in Orissa in the Kartik month and the main observance in the month includes praying early morning at the LordJagannathTemple during the morning Mangal Arati. Kartik Brata 2017 is from October 6 to November 4, 2017. Other important rituals in the month-long Kartik Brata include partial fasting, reading the Kartik Mahatmya from Padma Purana.

Most the devotees undertaking Kartik Brata stay in Puri and make it a point to visit LordJagannathTemple daily. Most devotees only consume the Mahaprasad from the Jagannath temple kitchen. Another important ritual in the month is the worship the holy Tulsi or Basil tree as the image of Lord Jagannath.

The last five days of Kartik month is considered highly auspicious and the JagannathTemple performs Panchuka. During the period, Lord Jagannath is depicted in five different new Veshas (attires) on each day.

Aippasi Masam 2017 – Tamil Month Aipasi in 2017 in Tamil Calendar

Aippasi Masam is the seventh month in a traditional Tamil calendar. Skanda Shasti Vrat dedicated to Lord Muruga begins in Aippasi month. Deepavali (November 10) is also observed in this month. Aippasi Masam 2017 begins on October 18 and ends on November 16.

In 2017, Skanda Shasti fast starts on October 20 and ends on October 27. Soorasamharam is on October 26.

Amavasi in Aippasi Masam is on October 19.

Kanda Sashti 2010 Fasting Dates

Kanda Sashti is an important Tamil festival dedicated to Lord Muruga or Kartik and it involves six days of fasting and is performed after Deepavali. Kanda Sashti 2010 fasting begins on November 6 and ends on November 11. Soorasamharam, the sixth day of fasting, is marked on November 11. Thirukalyanam is on November 12. The fasting of Skanda Shasti begins on the Pradma Thithi after Deepavali. The first day after the Amavasi that follows Deepavali. During the fasting period, devotees confine to a single meal.
