A fast is observed on Sri Krishna Jayanti by many devout Hindus. Janmashtami fasting is observed 24-hour before the birth of Lord Krishna, which had taken place during the midnight. Sri Krishna Jayanti Fasting date in 2025 is August 16 in most places. During Janmashtami fast most people spend the time in community prayer in temples. Pujas and rituals will be held from 23:00 hrs of August 17 to 04:00 hrs of August 17.
It is a complete fast from morning to midnight. The fast is broken after partaking the prasad distributed at midnight. Some people opt for a partial fast and sustain on fruits and liquids.
