Radha Raman Jayanthi – Radha Ramana Jayanti

Radha Ramana Jayanti, or Radharaman Jayanthi, is believed to be the day when the idol of Radha Raman (Lord Krishna and Radha) manifested from a Salagrama in the famous Radha Raman Temple in Vrindavan. In 2024, the date of Radha Raman Jayanthi is May 23. Radha Raman Jayanti is a highly auspicious day for Krishna devotees. The divine incident happened on Vaishakha Purnima (full moon day).

On the day devotees can have a darshan of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s cloth and asana at the Radha Raman Temple in Vrindavan.

Legend has it that Gopala Bhatta Gosvami, a disciple of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, once visited River Gandaki in Nepal and while taking bath he found Salagramas in his water pot. Gopala Bhatta Gosvami removed the Salagrama and collected water again but repeatedly he noticed the same set of Salagramas in his pot. Thinking it to be some divine decision, Gopala Bhattaji took the Salagrama and worshipped it at Vrindavan.

Once during Narasimha Jayanti, a devotee wanted to offer gold and dress to the deity. Gopala Bhatta Gosvami asked the devotee to offer to some deity as his was only a Shaligram Shila.

Being a Narasimha Chaturdashi day, Gopala Bhattaji thought how Lord Nrsimha had manifested from a stone and prayed before the Shaligram Shila for a full form of he deity. Next day morning the divine soul found that one of the Shaligram Shila had manifested into the idol of Radha Raman.

Special abhisheka is performed on the Radha Raman idol on Radha Raman Jayanthi with water from Yamuna River, ghee, milk, yoghurt, honey, sugar and herbs.
