Ashta Shakti – Eight Goddess Forms Worshipped During Durga Puja

Ashta Shakti, eight shaktis, are the various forms of Goddess Durga worshipped during Durga Puja.



The Ashta Shaktis are:
  1. Brahmani
  2. Maheshwari
  3. Koumari
  4. Vaishnavi
  5. Aindri
  6. Joggobarahi
  7. Narshinghi
  8. Chandrika
Brahmani is calm like Lord Brahma. Maheshwari is powerful like Shiva. Koumari is pure as a virgin. Vaishnavi has the power of Vishnu. Oindri or Aindri is the master of senses. Joggobarahi has the power of Varahi avatar of Vishnu. Naroshinghi is the female version of Narasimha. Chandrika is a fighter like Chandi who annihilated demon Chamunda.
