Kankole Panayakatt Bhagavathy temple is located at Kankol, Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Panayakattu Bhagavathy. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival in the temple is held for four days in Malayalam Meda Masam – Medam 11 to Medam 14 (April 25 to April 28).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kankol Panayakat
Bhagavathy temple are Panayakattu Bhagavathy theyyam, Pulikandan theyyam,
Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Rakta Chamundi theyyam.
This is a small traditional Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil. The walls and roof of the sanctum are decorated with traditional temple motifs. There are no major structures. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils, under trees and atop raised square platforms, which are exposed to the elements.
The annual festival days are noted various unique pujas and
rituals, melam, decoration, fireworks and traditional temple performing art
forms.
Sankranti in every Malayalamasam and Vishu are important
days in the temple.
