Kanhangad South Sree Muthappanar Kavu Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Kanhangad South Sree Muthappanar Kavu temple is located at Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Muthappan. The annual kaliyattam theyyam thira festival is held for three days in Malayalam Meena Masam – Meenam 20 to Meenam 21 (April 3 to April 4).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kanhangad South Sree Muthappan Kavu temple include Muthappan, Raktha Chamundi and Thee Chamundi Kolam.

The temple has a small chathura sreekovil for the main deity. The roof of the small shrine is decorated with traditional temple motifs. There are other smaller sreekovils. Some deities are offered worship under trees and upon raised platforms. The shrine observes important rituals and festivities including Sankranti in every month.
