Brihadaranyaka Aranyaka forms a part of Satapatha Brahmana in both the recensions – Madhyandina and Kanva – of Shukla Yajur Veda. In Madhyandina recension it consists of six adhyayas, including its famous Upanishads, which is known as Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.
Traditionally, the Aranyaka begins with the fourth adhyaya.
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, in its first adhyaya, also includes Satapatha
Brahmana X. 6, 4-5, with which the text begins. Thus, the text of the combined
Brihadaranyaka and Brihadaranyaka Upanishad in the Madhyandina recension
consists of a total number of six adhyayas and forty-four Brahmanas.
The combined Brihadaranyaka and Brihadaranyaka Upanishad in
the Kanva recension consists of a total number of six adhyayas and forty-six
Brahmanas.
