Vengara Kalathil Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Vengara near Madayi in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kurathi, Gulikan, Vayanattu Kulavan and other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held once in two years for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 25 to Vrischikam 26 (December 10 to December 11).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vengara Kalathil Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Gulikan theyyam, Vayanattu Kulavan theyyam, Kandanar Kelan theyyam and Kurathi theyyam.
This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil – square
sanctum sanctorum. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms and under
trees. The roof and walls of the main shrine are decorated with traditional
temple motifs. Sankranti in every month is of great significance.
