Mahe Puthalam Bhagavathy temple is located at Mahe. This is an ancient and popular shrine in the region and is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Chathan, Gulikan and other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 23 to Kumbham 25 (March 7 to March 9).
Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Mahe Puthalam Bhagavathy temple are Gulikan, Karivari Kuttichathan, Pookutty Kuttichathan and several other theyyams.
This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil – square
sanctum sanctorum. The shrine has a decorated roof with traditional motifs. There
are other smaller sreekovils. Certain deities are worshipped atop square
platforms and under trees. Important pujas are performed here on Sankranti day
which falls in the middle of a month as per Malayalam calendar.
