Chalakkara Varaprath Kavu Devi temple is located at Chalakkara in Mahe. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi or Devi. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for a couple of days in March.
Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Chalakkara
Varaprath Kavu Devi temple are Vasoorimala theyyam, Khandakarnan theyyam, Naga
Bhagavathi theyyam and Sasthappan or Kuttichathan theyyam.
This is a small beautiful temple with a chathura sreekovil –
square sanctum sanctorum – for the main deity. The roof and the walls of the
shrine are traditionally decorated. There are other smaller sreekovil and
square platforms for other deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees.
