Udayapuram Sree Krishna temple is an ancient shrine located at Kovapuram near Kunhimangalam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna.
The temple has a beautiful two-tier square sanctum sanctorum
– chathura sreekovil. The walls and the roof the main sanctum are decorated
with traditional Hindu religious motifs. The shrine is a chuttambalam,
namaskara mandapam and balikallu. There are also smaller shrines for upa
devatas.
Important offerings in the temple are butter and pal
payasam.
Thursdays and Sundays are of great importance here. Sri Krishna Janmashtami falling in Malayalam Chingam Masam is of great importance. Vishu (April 14 or April 15), the zodiac new year in Kerala, is another important festival here.
Devotees offer here to beget healthy children and to
overcome difficulties in life to due to children. Parents offer prayers for the
good health of their children here.
