Pothavoor Sree Meledath Poomala Bhagavathy Kavu Mundya Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Pothavoor Poomala Bhagavathy Kavu Mundya temple is located at Pothavoor in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Pomala Bhagvathy and Vishnumoorthi. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Thula Masam – Thulam 16 to Thulam 18(November 2 to November 4). Every year on November 3 (Thulam 17) early morning hours Thee Chamundi or Otta Kolam is performed here.

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Pothavoor Poomala Bhagavathy Kavu Mundya temple are Ottakolam or Thee Chamundi and Madayil Chamundi theyyam.

This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil for the main deity. The roof of the shrine is traditionally decorated. There are other smaller sreekovils and raised platforms for other deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Sankranti in a Malayalam month is of great importance. There is a beautiful pond attached to the temple.
