Vadakkupurathara Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Vadakkupurathara Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Udinoor in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Chamundi, Vishnumoorthi and other deities worshipped in kavu in the region. The annual theyyam – kaliyattam festival in the temple is held once in three years for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 3 and Vrischikam 4 (November 19 and November 20). The last festival was held in 2023.

The important theyyams that are part of the annual kaliyattam – thira festival at Vadakkupurathara Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Raktha Chamundi theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Achan Daivam, Ayitti Bhagavathy theyyam and Ankakulangara Bhagavathi theyyam.

The temple has a main chathura sreekovil for the main deity. Other deities that are popularly worshipped in tharavadu, kavu and temples in Kannur region are worshipped in square platforms and small sreekovil. Yearly Vishu and monthly Sankranti days are important in the temple. This is a small privately maintained temple.
