Ravaneswaram Koonhangad Tharavadu Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Ravaneswaram Koonhangad Tharavadu temple is located at Ravaneshwaram in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Chamundi, Bhootham, Vishnumoorthi and numerous other deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 9 to Vrischikam 10 (November 24 to November 25).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Koonhangad Tharavadu temple are Moovalamkuzhi Chamundi theyyam, Sree Bhootham, Karanavar, Gulikan, Mulavanoor Bhagavathy, Padinjare Chamundi, Pottan theyyam and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.

The main deities are worshipped in traditional house renovated recently. Some deities are worshipped atop small square platforms and under trees. There are other smaller sreekovils. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day. The shrine has been renovated and has a modern look. This is a family maintained private temple.
