Puliyakkattu Puthiyasthanam Vishnumoorthi Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Puliyakkattu Puthiyasthanam Vishnumoorthi temple is located at Moolappally near Nileshwar in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vishnumoorthi and numerous other deities that are worshipped commonly in kavu and sacred places in Kasaragod region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is observed once in two years for two days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 11 to Vrischikam 12 – November 27 to November 28.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Puliyakkattu Puthiyasthanam Vishnumoorthy temple are the Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Poomaruthan theyyam.

This a privately-maintained temple with a small chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum for the main deity. The roof of the sanctum is decorated with traditional motifs. Some deities are worshipped on small square platforms and under trees. Pujas are held mainly during Sankranti and Vishu.
