Eriam Sree Puliyoor Kali Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Thira Festival

Eriam Sree Puliyoor Kali temple is located at Eriam near Panapuzha in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Puli Daivam and other deities that are commonly worshipped in tharavadu, kavu and sacred places in Kannur region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for four days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 21 to Vrischikam 24 (December 7 to December 10).

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Eriam Sree Puliyoorkali temple are Karinthiri Nair theyyam, Kanda puli theyyam, Mara Puli theyyam, Pulikandan theyyam, Pulloor Kandan, Veeran, Veerakali theyyam, Puthiya Bhagavathi theyyam, Vishnumurthy theyyam, Kurathi Amma theyyam, Kundor Chamundi, Gulikan, Pulli Karinkali theyyam and Puliyoor kali theyyam.


This is a small traditional Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil. The walls and roof of the sanctum are decorated with traditional temple motifs. There are no major structures. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils, under trees and atop raised square platforms, which are exposed to the elements.

The temple festival days are noted various unique pujas and rituals, melam, decoration, fireworks and traditional temple performing art forms.

Sankranti in every Malayalamasam and Vishu are important days in the temple. The temple has a small pond.
