Vellora Vayalapra Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Vellora Vayalapra Devasthanam temple is located on the Ammanappara - Pacheni - Thiruvattoor - Therandi - Chapparapadavu Road in Pacheni, Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Thai Paradevatha and Sree Bhootham. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 14 to Kumbham 15 (February 26 to February 27).


The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vellora Vayalapra Devasthanam temple are Sree Bhootham, Vishnumoorthi, Raktha Chamundi and Thai Paradevatha theyyam.

This is a small temple with a small chathura sreekovil for the main deity. The walls and roof of the shrine are decorated with traditional temple motifs. Other deities worshipped in the temple can be found atop small square platforms which are exposed to elements. Some deities are worshipped under trees. There are also other smaller sreekovils. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of great importance here.
