Vadakkumbad Punikkol temple is located at Vadakkumbad in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Vishnumoorthi and other related deities. The annual thira theyyam kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 8 to Dhanu 9 (December 24 to December 25).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vadakkumbad
Punikkol temple are Gulikan theyyam, Raktha Chamundi theyyam, Sasthappan and
Vishnumoorthi theyyam.
The shrine is mainly open on Sankranti day in a month as per
traditional Malayalam calendar. The main deity is worshipped in traditional chathura
sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. Other deities are worshipped under trees
and atop small raised square platforms.
