Vengara Karapathu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Vengara in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other related deities that are worshipped in kavu, tharavadu and sacred places in the region. The theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam. The kaliyattam festival here is not an annual event.
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vengara
Karapathu Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Brahmanjeri Bhagavathy theyyam, Kandanarkelan
theyyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Madayil Chamundi theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Vayanattu
Kulavan theyyam.
The temple has square sanctum sanctorum – chathura sreekovil
– for the main deity. Some deities are worshipped under trees and atop square
platforms. There are smaller sreekovils for other deities. Sankranti in every
month is of great importance here.
