Mattannur Othayoth Kuttisasthappan temple is located at Mattannur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kuttisasthappan or Kuttichathan and numerous other deities that are worshipped in sacred places in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in the shrine is held in Malayalam Kumbha Masam for three days – Kumbham 10 to Kumbham 12 (February 22 to February 24).
The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Mattannur
Othayoth Kutti Sasthappan temple are Karuval Bhagavathi theyyam, Uchishta
Bhagavathy theyyam and Kuttichathan theyyam.
This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum for
the main deities. Other deities are worshiped in smaller sreekovils and under
trees. Some deities are worshipped atop square platforms. Sankranti as per
Malayalam calendar in every month is the most important day in the temple. The
temple attracts a large number of devotees as the Kuttichathan worship helps in
discovering treasure and in overcoming enemies.
