Kelothu Akkalath Avuthiyan Tharavadu Thondachan Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Kelothu Akkalath Avuthiyan Tharavadu Thondachan Devasthanam temple is located at Kelothu near Payyanur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vayanattu Kulavan and other important deities that are worshipped in kavu, tharavadu and sacred places in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 6 and Kumbham 7 (February 18 and February 19).

The main shrine is a chathura sreekovil with a traditional roof. There are other similar sreekovils and smaller structures. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms and under trees. Sankranti in each Malayalam month if of great significance.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kelothu Akkalath Avuthiyan Tharavadu Thondachan Devasthanam temple are Vayanattu Kulavan and Thondachan theyyam.
