Arathil Karinkulathillam Tharavadu Pazhichayil Kavu Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Arathil Karinkulathillam Tharavadu Pazhichayil Kavu temple is located at Arathil near Pilathara in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Pazhichayil Bhagavathy and Vishnumoorthi (Narasimha Avatar of Bhagavan Vishnu). The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 14 to Kumbham 16 (February 26 to Feb 28).

The main deities are worshipped in a square sanctum sanctorum – chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms which are open to the elements. Certain deities are given space under trees. Vishu is an important festival here. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of great significance. The roof of the main temple is traditionally decorated.
