Vellur Kizhakumbad Nagathinmoola Nagam Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival – Rare Snake Theyyams

Vellur Kizhakumbad Nagathinmoola Nagam temple is located at Kizhakumbad near Vellur near Payyanur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine here is dedicated to Nagas or serpents. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 26 and Kumbham 27 (March 10 and March 11). Rare snake theyyams can be witnessed here.

This is a small shrine with a traditional Chathura Sreekovil for the main deity. Upadevatas are worshipped on raised square platforms and under trees. Sankranthi is the most important day in a month. Ayiliyam nakshatra day is of significance here.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vellur Kizhakumbad Nagathinmoola Naagam temple are Naga Rajavu and Naga Kannya theyyam.
