Swami Madam Kannuveedu Kadappuram Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Swami Madam Kannuveedu Kadappuram temple is located on Kannuveed - Kadappuram Road, Valiyaparamba, in Kannur district, Kerala. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in the temple is elaborate with special rituals and numerous theyyam kolams and some of them are rare. The theyyam thira kaliyattam festival at Swami Madam Kannu Veedu Kadappuram temple is held for three days in Malayalam Meena Masam – Meenam 10, Meenam 11 and Meenam 12 – March 24 to March 26.


This is a small temple with a square sanctum sanctorum. The main deities worshipped in the temple are Bhagavathi and other deities that are commonly worshiped in tharavadu, kavu and sacred places in Kannur region. There are small chathura sreekovil and raised platforms dedicated to various deities. Some deities are worshipped under tree.

The shrine is located in a scenic location surround by sea and backwaters.

The important theyyams that are performed at Swami Madam Kannuveedu Kadappuram temple are Bhairavan theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Raktheswari theyyam, Kuttichathan theyyam, Khandakarnan theyyam, Uchitta theyyam, Kurathi theyyam and Pottan theyyam.
