Pulli Kali Theyyam – Story – Information

Pulli Kali Theyyam is a unique and very popular theyyam part of the annual Thira – theyyam – Kaliyattam festival in several temples, kavu, tharavadu and sacred places mainly in Kannur and Kasaragod districts in Kerala. As per information, Pullikali theyyam is an avatar of Goddess Parvati. As per Pulli Kali theyyam story, once, Shiva and Goddess Parvati were traveling through the Thullor Forest. Here they happened to see a tiger mating with a female tiger. Shiva and Parvati had amorous feelings and they took the form of Pulikandan and Pulli Kali.

This theyyam is also known as Pullikarinkali theyyam.

This theyyam can be witnessed at Mattannur – Malur Aryaparambu Sree Koottakkalam temple in Kannur district on April 4 – Meenam 21 (Malayalam Meena Masam 21).

This is one among the couple of Manathana theyyam (മണത്തണ കൂട്ടങ്ങൾ) performed at Aryaparambu Sree Koottakkalam temple.
