The daily food offering at Kanyakumari Bhagavathy Amman temple is elaborate and unique and the shrine follows rituals followed in Kerala temples.
The first food offering is malar naivedyam – puffed rice or pori mixed with beaten rice, jaggery and a local variety of banana known as rasavangi. This is offered around 5:30 AM.
The next offering is Sudhannam – Naivedya Venpadi.
An elaborate and important food offering is made around 8:00 AM
The first offering is Manja Pongal – rice mixed with turmeric giving it a yellow color. This is followed by Aravanai Payasam with rice, green gram, sugar, ghee, cashew, cardamomand cloves. The next offering is Pal Payasam prepared using milk, ghee, sugar, clove, cashew and cardamom. After a side dish known as kootu prepared from whole green gram, large cucumber and coconut is offered. After this sour, raw mango is offered. Then ginger with coconut and pepper is offered. The next offering is raw banana, sliced, cooked and tempered with mustard seeds in coconut oil. Next offering is eriserry prepared using yam and coconut shavings. The final offering is pulissery prepared using ash gourd, curd and coconut.
Sakkarai pongal is offered at 10: AM and for Ucchi kalam puja venpadi with sakkarai pongal is offered.
The next food offering is in the evening around 4:00 PM. The offering is malar naivedyam – puffed rice or pori mixed with beaten rice, jaggery and a local variety of banana known as rasavangi.
Payasam is offered during utsava murti procession.
Vena Padi – Sakkarai pongal is offered at 8:00 PM. Deep fried appam made from rice flour batter along with jaggery and sugar is another offering. Uzhunnu vadai is the last offering during this period.
Before closing for the day milk and tender coconut water are offered.
Chili is not used in any preparation. It is substituted with pepper and peppercorns.
