Agrashalayamma – A Goddess Worshipped In North Kerala

Agrashalayamma or Agrashala Amma is another name for Goddess Annapoorneshwari. This murti is worshipped in the Cherukunnu Annapoorneshwari temple in Kannur district, Kerala. The popular belief is that this Goddess arrived Kannur region from Ariyarnadu. Kola Rajavu a local ruler honored her and gave her a place of worship. Thus she became a Goddess in the region. She is also believed to be a sister of Madayikavil Achi or the Goddess worshipped at Madayi Kavu.

The Cherukunnu temple is famous for a daanam (donation) known as Agrashala.
