Velan Theyyam – Information – Story

Velan theyyam kolam is a rare theyyam seen during the annual kaliyattam theyyam thira festival in Kasaragod region of Kerala. As per information this is a male theyyam and is dedicated to a person who lived during the ancient times. As per Velan theyyam story, the person performed selfless service and sacrifice for the good of the community. The person attained the status of a Daivakaru. To honor his sacrifice and to respect him a theyyam is performed annually.

Velan theyyam is annually performed at Kodakkad Cherumoola Puthukulath Illam Devasthanam in Kasaragod region from March 4 to March 5.
