Veeran Theyyam – Story – Information

Veeran theyyam kolam is a male theyyam and is annually performed in several kavu, tharavadu, sacred places and temples in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information, Veeran theyyam performed selfless sacrifice and attained martyrdom. As per Veeran theyyam story, he happened to come in the way of Goddess Puthiya Bhagavathi. The ferocious goddess had just burned down the Villapuram kotta (fort) and had reached Padarkulangara. Here she felt thirsty and happened to see a man. She killed him and drank his blood. For his selfless sacrifice and for protecting the region from the wrath of the Goddess, people made honored him with a theyyam.

The theyyam is in the form of an old Brahmin man. He holds a traditional umbrella. This is a kind and benign theyyam.
