Vasoorimala Theyyam – Story – Information

Vasoorimala theyyam kolam is a unique theyyam associated with diseases and cure seen during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala. As per information, Vasoorimala theyyam is also known as Aiswaryavaradhayini. As per Vasoorimala theyyam, Vasoorimala is Manodari, who was the wife of Darikasura. Her husband was killed by Goddess Bhadrakali, She propitiated Shiva to avenge the death of her husband. She received sweat drops of Shiva and she threw it on Goddess Kali. Goddess Bhadrakali was inflicted with pox. In anger Goddess Kali, removed the eyes of Manodari and made her servant.

This is a very popular theyyam can be witnessed in several kavu, tharavadu, sacred places and temples.

This theyyam is worshipped to overcome communicable diseases and other health issues.
