Thoovakkaran Theyyam – Story – Information

Thoovakkaran theyyam is a lesser known and rare theyyam seen during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information, this is a male deity and is associated with livestock protection. As per Thoovakkaran theyyam story, the deity appeared before the head a community that earned a living through livestock. The deity offered protection of farm animals. The deity was given a place of worship. A theyyam is performed annually to invoke the blessings of the theyyam.

Thoovakkaran theyyam is offered prayers for early cure of serious health issues and for a good harvest and incident free rainy season. The kolam or dress and make up the theyyam varies from temple to temple.
