Ponmalakkari Theyyam – Information – Story

Ponmalakkari Theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information, this theyyam is associated with the Vishwakarma community (Ashari or carpenters). As per Ponmalakkari theyyam story, the person lived during the ancient times and performed noble and generous deeds for the people of region. He later became a Daivakkaru and was given a theyyam. He is annually invoked in theyyam form to get blessings and for peace and prosperity.

As this theyyam is associated with a particular profession, he holds items related to the profession. The theyyam has a unique headgear.

Ponmalakkari Theyyam can be witnessed annually at Narathu Onaparamba Narathu Vishwakarma Urpazhassi temple, Kannur Narath Onapparamb Sree Vishwakarma Oor Pazhassi temple and Kannur Kolachery Vishwakarma Oor Pazhassi Vettakkorumakan temple.
