Padaveeran Theyyam – Story – Information

Padaveeran theyyam is a male theyyam seen in many temples, kavu and tharavadu during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kasaragod and Kannur districts of Kerala. As per information, this is a warrior theyyam. As per Padaveeran theyyam story, he fought valiantly against the army from neighboring Kodagu. He was the son of Achanthpattu Kuru Madathil Koppala Maniyani. He caused immense damage to the Kodavapada (army of Kodavas). Like the famous Kathivanoor Veeran, he also died in the battlefield. As he died while fighting the enemy, the theyyam came to be known as Padaveeran theyyam.




The theyyam is noted for its unique headgear. The theyyam performs numerous acrobatic moves. This theyyam attracts a huge crowd especially due to the energy displayed.

The theyyam holds a sword and appears in an angry mood challenging people.
