Nellu Kuthi Pothi Theyyam – Story – Information - Nellu Kuthi Daivam

Nellu Kuthi Pothi theyyam (നെല്ലുകുത്തി), also known as Nellu Kuthi Daivam, is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam, thira, kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information this a female theyyam. The story of Nellu Kuthi Pothi Kolam suggests that she was propitiated and worshipped by Kundorappan. She is also a parivara devata of Kundor Chamundi. It is believed that this theyyam performed miracles to protect the family of Kundorappan. She also protects her devotees from against all kinds of evil forces. As per local folklore this theyyam is a daiva karu of a person associated with removing the husk of rice in the traditional method.

This theyyam is annually performed at Sree Kottikulam Puthrakkar Tharavadu Devasthanam temple (February 28 to March 2 once in 5 years – last held in 2022), and Azhikode Uppayichaal Velankuniyil Kunjarukurathiyamma Devasthanam temple (Feb 14 to Feb 16).
