Mecheri Chamundi theyyam is a rare Mother Goddess Bhagavathi theyyam performed during the annual kaliyattam, theyyam thira festival in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information, this a ferocious theyyam and is associated with the annihilation of demons Chanda and Munda. As per Mecheri Chamundi theyyam story, she is the daughter of Kalankari Chamundi. She is a minor manifestation of Rakta Chamundi form of Goddess Kali.
This form of Mother Goddess is worshipped to overcome various kinds of fears and to defeat enemies. She is also propitiated to retrieve stolen or lost items. It is also believed that prayers to her helps in curing even the most serious diseases.
