Manavatty Theyyam – Story – Information

Manavatty Theyyam (മണവാട്ടി തെയ്യം) is a very rare theyyam performed during the annual kaliyattam, thira theyyam festival in Kasaragod region if Kerala. As per information Manavatty theyyam is a rare female Muslim theyyam and is based on a folklore. The story of Manavatty theyyam is that of selfless sacrifice of an individual resulting in the betterment of the family and region. For his great pious act, the person was given a theyyam and it performed annually.

Manavatty theyyam is performed on May 22 and May 23 at Kanhangad Madiyan Koolom temple in Kasaragod district of Kerala.

The theyyam is noted for its beauty and grandeur. This is a highly decorated theyyam with a lot of makeup.
