Koorumba Theyyam – Story – Information

Koorumba Theyyam (Koormba) is a mother goddess theyyam and it is performed in many temples in Kannur and Kasaragod district of Kerala during the annually kaliyattam, theyyam and thira festival. As per information, this theyyam is associated with Vasuri or poxes. Koorumba Theyyam story is that of her spreading poxes in anger. When people respect and propitiate them, she cures the poxes and provides coolness and chill to the devotees.

There is also a widespread belief that Koorumba or Koormba is a manifestation of Kodungallur Bhagavathy.

One can witness this theyyam at Koothuparamba Chaambad Kurumba Bhagavathy temple in Kannur on March 7. This Bhagavathy theyyam is also seen in many other shrines.
