Lakshanadhyaksha In Hinduism – Superintendent Of Mint

Lakshanadhyaksha in Hinduism was the superintendent of mint. In Chapter II of Kautilya’s Arthashastra, the duties of 29 adhyakshas appointed by the king as the heads of various departments of the state are enumerated.

Lakshanadhyaksha overlooks the minting of silver and copper coins of varied denominations.

He was to make sure that the mint did not produce any bad coins. The weight and denomination had to be perfect. He was to make sure that no one took away coins from the mint without proper authorization.
