Kattumudantha Theyyam – Information – Story

Kattumudantha Theyyam is a theyyam associated with gods or supernatural beings of the forest. It is a very rare theyyam and is seen during the annual theyyam thira and kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod districts of North Kerala. As per information, this is a ferocious forest deity and is part of nature worship. Kattumudantha theyyam story is that of the deity causing problems to the daily life of people and people giving the deity a place of worship to appease it. A theyyam is performed annually to keep the deity calm and happy.

The theyyam is worshipped for the protection of farm animals and agriculture. He is also invoked by those venturing into forest as part of their livelihood.

The theyyam is annually worshipped and performed at Padiyottuchal Nidumchaal Karimanal Chamundi temple (February 22 at 1 PM) and Peringome Peruvemba Vayanattukulavan temple (March 1 and March 2) in Kannur district of Kerala.
