Kalariyal Bhagavathy Theyyam is a Mother Goddess theyyam that is performed in numerous kavu tharavadu and temples across Kannur region of Kerala. As per information Kalariyal Bhagavathy, is the manifestation of Goddess Kali who appeared to annihilate Darikasura. The story of Kalariyal Bhagavathy theyyam is that of her appearing before the main member of a family or taking abode or aroodam in a tharavadu or under a sacred tree. She sometimes protects the family or destroys the family for some reason. To keep her in control, she is given a place in home or sacred place. A theyyam is performed annually to keep her happy and content.

The Goddess is the protective deity of a particular region. She rules and controls the entire area.

Kalariyal Bhagavathy has one of the biggest ‘mudi’ (headgear) in theyyams. She also has prominent silver protruding teeth. She also holds a shield and sword.

Kalariyal Bhagavathy theyyam is performed at Varam Puthusseri Chathoth Sree Kalari Devasthanam temple, Madayi Thiruvarkkattukavu (Madayi Kavu) temple (May 31), Valapattanam Sree Kalarivathukkal Bhagavathy Kavu temple, Azhikode Valapattanam Kalariyal Bhagavathy temple (June 8), Mazhoor Kalariyal Bhagavathy Kavu and Payyannur Kokkanisseri Nikkunnath Kalariyal Bhagavathy Kavu temple.
